When I read this book I thought that R.J. Palacio achieved the purpose of Wonder. My favorite part was at the end of the book when Auggie's mom says "You really are a wonder Auggie. You are a wonder"(Palacio 310). I think the writing was very effective. It showed kids not to bully other kids, no matter how they look. A very happy part was at the graduation reception when Auggie thinks to himself " I don't want to brag, but I think people actually wanted to get close to me"(Palacio 308) . The saddest part of Wonder is when Auggie's best friend/ dog, Daisy, dies. Palacio also did an effective job on how Auggie changed over the school year. At first he was a Star Wars fanatic and then he changed to a fun-loving kid. There is also two parts in the book where the kids see Auggies in danger and they protect him. The first one is a Jack section of the book, " And that's when I punched him, right in the mouth" (Palacio 154). That one is when Jack punched Julian because he was making fun of August. The next when happened at their overnight field-trip, " I couldn't really see what happened afterwards, except that Amos rammed into that Eddie guy like a monster truck and they both fell down to the ground next to me" (Palacio 267). So as you can see, Palacio did a very good job writing this book. She wrote on the ordinary life of an 11 year-old kid, but she added the part where he had a deformed face. I would recommend this book to all the kids in my class. After reading this book Palacio opened up a new sight into life. So I recommend that you read this book.
